Luxury Cruises
Cunard's QM 2 and QE 2
Seabourn on the Thames
Silversea ship
A cruise, to some, is the ultimate vacation. You can do as much as you want, or do nothing all week. It's your choice. There is something about the movement of the ship and just being at sea that is totally relaxing.
How are luxury cruise lines different from larger ships?
On deluxe cruise lines, the staterooms are stocked with the beverages of the guests' choice and the staff is among the best at sea. Cruising on one of these lines would be comparable to staying at a Ritz or Four Seasons hotel. Interestingly, since the ships are smaller, they often make port in smaller harbors where larger ships cannot sail. For this reason, some of their ports are more exotic and distinctive. Since they cater to a wealthier clientele, these ships usually attract people who are older, more highly educated and more well-traveled than those found on discount lines.
Cunard - These are the largest of the luxury ships, built for trans-atlantic crossings. They are in fact among the largest cruise ships in the world. The staterooms, food and service are unparalleled in the industry. Due to their English heritage, there is a certain amount of formality expected onboard. However, there is still plenty of room for fun and relaxation.
Regent Seven Seas Cruise Line – They have smaller ships with the largest holding about 750 passengers. The client is very pampered with every request and every whim met with a "yes we can" and with a smile. Gourmet cuisine is served every day and at every meal.
Seabourn Cruise Line – Seabourn also has smaller ships and has a yacht-like feel to their sailings. It is often said that you feel like you are on your own yacht. The service is top notch. The food is always gourmet cuisine and the wine list is extensive.
Silversea Cruise Line – Their ships offer a maximum of 700 guests. Passengers are very well taken care of and this line is more old world charm and décor. It is not unusual to see men in tuxedos on Silversea. The food and service are again excellent.
Windstar Cruises - These smaller ships have a more casual setting. No ties required, yet the service and cuisine are still excellent.
Sea Dream Yacht Club - These are even smaller ships with only 50 staterooms. The luxury is similar to these others, but with a more intimate atmosphere. Their slogan is, "It's not cruising. It's yachting."
